A case of measles has been confirmed in a dormitory associated with the Central Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim Lubavitch – 770 Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights, prompting urgent health guidance from the ODA Crown Heights Health Center.
The patient, a young Yeshiva bochur from Israel currently studying in the “Kevutza” program at 770, was officially diagnosed earlier on Tuesday with the highly contagious virus.
“The risk of a large-scale outbreak is real,” stated the medical team at ODA in a public health text message to its patients at 1:19 PM on Tuesday.
The ODA didn’t disclose whether this bochur was a resident of the dormitories at 749 Eastern Parkway, 755 Eastern Parkway, 1414 President Street, 1214 Sterling Place, or another in the neighborhood. A medical source told COLlive it was the 755 dormitory.
“Please ensure all children and young adults are vaccinated with MMR. Watch for symptoms: fever, rash, cough, conjunctivitis, and diarrhea,” the ODA wrote.
Measles is an illness that spreads through respiratory droplets and can cause high fever, cough, rash, conjunctivitis (red eyes), and diarrhea. It can also lead to serious complications, especially in young children and those with weakened immune systems.
The ODA Health Center, located at 779 East New York Avenue, added, “If visiting a medical facility with these signs, call ahead so the case can be properly managed and exposure minimized.”
Residents were advised to review their family’s vaccination records and contact their doctor or the ODA Health Center with any concerns.
For appointments or questions, contact the ODA Crown Heights Health Center at (718) 260-4670.

The tism is coming!!
It’s all part of our grand plan to conquer the world
They should give them all the jab before they let them into the country
They should let them into the country?
Someone is catching on!
Buddy if the jab works and is effective then you’re protected and have got nothing to worry about.
And if you’re still worried about it then maybe you also deep down don’t really trust the vaccine hogwash either.
Some individuals do not have immunity despite being vaccinated and ensuring that everyone is vaccinated protects those who are vulnerable, which includes infants and those with compromised immune systems
For small babies who can’t get the vaccine yet this is actually really scary. Do you want your newborn to get the measles? Kids are on ecmo machines and their lives are at risk for no reason bc of the measles rn. If you decide to bring back measles by not getting vaccinated, and these kids die (which some have already) then honestly you’re partly responsible for killing children. I’m not talking about someone who has an actual anaphylactic allergy to vaccines, just people who are selfish enough to not look at the bigger picture and not smart enough to… Read more »
Comments like these completely disregard the percentage of people requiring vax in order to create a society where it isn’t spreading. We lose herd immunity, which makes vax LESS effective. It’s not a comment on the efficacy of the vax itself.
We are going to continue to see a rising trend in diseases that were mostly eradicated in the U.S. because people got so comfortable with herd immunity, that they didn’t realize the vax was actually working.
Did they check the other students and staff? Did anyone run titers tests and made all who don’t have to do MMR?
Honestly all 770 need to be checked for vaccinations.
We have lots of people who can’t do vaccines…
Can you also post in more graphic terms what are the complications and risks to pregnant women. That will help people take it more seriously.
You are thinking of Rubella (“German measles”). The bochur has regular measles.
Measles also poses a risk to the developing fetus including miscarriage, preterm birth, and congenital measles which can be fatal
100 percent. Vaccination is the only way to protect Jewish children.
Preborn babies of mothers who have had the measles are not at risk.
Definitely when measles was super common when your parents were children, and every child got it, the pregnant moms were super worried. In fact all of our grandmas know pregnant friends who had issues because of it right? That’s why we’ve always heard about it firsthand!
That makes no sense since they all got the measles when they were little and were immune for life
The long term effects can be devastating including hearing loss, blindness, lung damage, and neurological problems. In vulnerable people such as infants or individuals with chronic illness or compromised immune systems, measles an be fatal in 10% of cases.
That’s because when your grandma was pregnant everyone had already had measles as a kid and were therefore immune.
These days almost no one had measles as a kid thanks to the vaccines so if an unvaccinated pregnant woman catches it CH”V that puts her at greater risk of an increased risk of miscarriage, premature labor, and/or a low birthweight baby.
Hoping the bochur has a smooth recovery. These things can get out of hand fast in a yeshiva setting, so let’s all be smart about it.
Great, just what the dorm needed — more things to share besides cholent and towels. Hope he recovers fast and it doesn’t spread.
Hard to believe we’re still dealing with measles in 2025. Hopefully this gets contained quickly and people take the warnings seriously.
Kids run around with chicken pox and now measles.
I can understand when people don’t want the newer Covid vaccine which only supposedly lessens the severity of the symptoms for them but doesn’t protect others, but all these childhood disease vaccines have been around for decades, the Rebbe was ok with them, and they protect people.
It’s really bizarre and backwards.
E.g. England Chicken pox vaccines aren’t given out like in america
Chicken pox is much less dangerous and actually does not spread as well either, though it is also very contagious.
Why would anyone not get vaccinated, insane behavior
Old fashion nonsense!
Now his immune system will be stronger
Mazal Tov!!
Measles attacks the memory immune cells causing immune amnesia and leaving the body MORE susceptible to other diseases, even diseases the person has previously acquired an immunity to, for years after the measles infection.
https://www.harvardmagazine.com/2025/03/measles-immune-amnesia
Would you like some? It will help your immune system right?
I hope you’re not a parent. And if you are and your child or someone you knows gets sick and dies because of your poor decision making, I hope you can sleep well at night knowing you are responsible.
Before commenting remember! We are currently in the 9 days
No one should chas vsholom go unvaccinated potentially harming themselves and other yiddin. Not anytime during the year but especially during the 9 days, now is a time for people to protect themselves and others.
According to you.
People think the vaccine causes a lot of harm.
They also don’t think the measles infection is a death sentence
755 EP is NOT associated with CYTTL 770. It is independently owned by an organization called “iggud talmidei hakvutzah.”
Like the Rebbe said!
Certainly don’t “quote” what wasn’t explicitly said….
The rebbe explicitly said to listen to doctors and medical providers.
To ensure thar all bochurim have up to date immunization records before being accepted
And chilul Hashem. Why are we risking children, pregnant mothers, and ill people who can’t get vaccinated? Absolutely disgusted
The same danger applies now going into 770
That is where the Israeli bochurim are all day and night
The danger is more going into the restaurants and cafes of Kingston ave.
The bauchrim are there day and night. No one sanitizes the tables where you eat. Measels are spread via droplets. Don’t say the danger is greater in 770.
MMR vaccine is required for entry into the U.S. Maybe he was allergic and got an exemption?
He had an American passport?
Never heard vaccines required for entry to usa
Not true
He was vaccinated?
Hospitalization. About 1 in 5 unvaccinated people in the U.S. who get measles is hospitalized. Pneumonia. As many as 1 out of every 20 children with measles gets pneumonia, the most common cause of death from measles in young children. Encephalitis. About 1 child out of every 1,000 who get measles will develop encephalitis (swelling of the brain). This can lead to convulsions and leave the child deaf or with intellectual disability. Death. Nearly 1 to 3 of every 1,000 children who become infected with measles will die from respiratory and neurologic complications. Complications during pregnancy. If you are pregnant and have not had the… Read more »
Titers can be checked for immunity to measles.
If titer is ok no vaccine needed.
Dr feldman z”l did that with me to avoid unnecessary vaccinations
Where are this boys parents?
What were they thinking?
How dare they put so many people at risk!!
The decision to not vaccinate, highly impacts others!!
Is not a boy
He is an adult since he is over 18
Vaccination with weakened live vaccine can cause others with weak immunity to catch measles from the weakened vaccine. It happened in israel
How you can have a vaccine if it’s weakened?
Means the virus is live in the vaccine but not supposed to be able to get someone sick or spread to someone else as the virus is attenuated. Not the regular wild virus
just like they risked lives during covid by not wearing masks and thus caused the death of close to 100 people in the shchuna
Thats all false
No one believes
These lies
According to science a mask cannot possibly stop a coronavirus unless it’s completely airtight because the virus is that tiny. If oxygen can get through so can the virus. Now how safe is it to suffocate yourself with no oxygen? Ask dr. Flip flop Fauci who can’t make up his mind.
That’s not how science works
!
Please
My 84 year old neighbor said measles back then was considered less of a big deal than chicken pox. It’s a viral infection not a disease. Pregnant women usually have immunity and if they don’t it’s on them to take precautions.
Higher risk if your low on vitamin a.
It’s a single strand rna virus like covid.
Zinc in the cells when taken right in the beginning of the infection should prevent viral replication and cause a mild infection with no complications.
Stop the fear mongering.
For most people the measles doesn’t pose a threat. But 400 children died per year before the vaccine and that’s not including other complications such as going deaf etc… so for absolutely no good reason you are ok with 400 children dying from something that was already eliminated when everyone got vaccinated?
Tell that to the Jewish women who contracted measles during the last outbreak in the frum community and miscarried. I’m sure they will be very comforted.
I work in healthcare by the way. You’re an idiot.
Get yourself an actual education in biology and medicine before spouting your ‘research’
Holy dreck is that load of garbage. Please, please, PLEASE, dont spread misinformation, you are literally killing jews.
Vaccinate your precious children before it is too late! Stop believing conspiracy theories!
Measels is more severe than chicken pox. As a child I had all three “childhood diseases”: mumps, measles and chicken pox. There is no question that measles is the severest illness of the three. Have rachmanos on your kids and vaccinate.
Chicken pox for me was the worst
First of all, it doesn’t say anywhere in the article whether or not the bochur was vaccinated or unvaccinated. Vaccinated people can also catch the measles. It happened by the last thread of outbreaks in 2019. So everyone is assuming that this bochur wasn’t vaccinated and possibly being חושד בכשרים. Second of all, I never heard of TSA /and customs /border control requiring proof of MMR or other immunizations to enter the country. Most schools and seminaries and yeshivas do require immunization records. Does 770/kevutza not require? What I do want to say is that after the tunnel digging story… Read more »
