On Oct 2, 2011 he said his 36th album “Kisufim” will be his very last. “The way it is right now, it really doesn’t pay to do an album.”
On Oct 10, 2011 he said, “I have no plans on future albums. I hope to spend the rest of my life – until 120 – learning Torah and doing Mitzvos.”
So he said…
Now rumor has it that Chassidic Jewish music superstar Mordechai Ben David (MBD) is back in a recording studio and working on a new album.
According to music website Shlager.net, “the sales of the last album and the public’s desire to hear his voice, had their effect.”
The website said that MBD will be confirming this news this Motzoei Shabbos in an interview with Menachem Toker on the Galei Israel radio.
To be fair, when MBD made the “retirement” announcement, he stated that “I am only retiring from albums.” After Kisufim, he was featured on producer Shea Mendelowitz‘s album “Big Time – Alter Heim.”

I was sore depressed when I heard he was leaving and then gone. Was making plans to move to Israel to be near him. Hoping to hear him once again. As long as he lives, I want to listen to all his music relays. Shalom
The King of music is back! Hurray!!
I knew that we hadn’t seen the last of him…
he’s too good to stop making music.
I remember the rumors about MBD retiring for at least 10 years, I think it was after “tomid besimcha” that the rumors started spreading that mbd is retiring.
Maybe they spread the rumors to helps album sales
Does anyone know the answer??????
hope its true!
we love mbd!
MBD said the way downloads “stealing” has hurt the music industry, it doesn’t pay to invest so much work & $ into a CD anymore… Y would anyone wanna do that??? makes sense, NO?
Wasn’t it Gnaivas Daas to tell everyone the last albulm was his last just to get folks to buy it.
MBD has always been an ehrlicher Yid. He does not need money, and if he did he could easily find backers and go into business, or use his talent with people to become a very successful real estate, mortgage or diamond broker even at age 60. He does what he does because he believes it is his avoida, and I don’t think his announcement in October was a publicity stunt. He is simply responding to people who want him to continue his avoida by releasing more albums. I and others who live abroad cannot attend concerts without spending $1000 or… Read more »
for the record, someone I know emailed MBD and he had no idea about any of this. I’m not sure what his announcement will be on Tokers radio Motzei Shabbos but I think it will just be a minor thing for a Tzedakah, not a full on album. It’s funny how everyone is writing without getting quote from MBD direct.
nice. cant wait to hear
i knew he wouldn’t just quit like that!
YESSS!!!
AH I WOULD HAVE MISSED HIM! He should pursue his learning dreams, but ONE MORE PLEASE 🙂
Shmos 4:8 “If they do not believe you,” [said Hashem], “and they do not pay attention to the first sign (“ois”), then they will believe to the “last sign” (“ois ha’acharon”).
The term “acharon” does not mean the last and final, as is self evident from that what Hashem continues (4:9) “And if they also do not believe in these two signs…[you should make another sign]”.
Hope this clears it up!
