Two Crown Heights residents were invited to an exclusive farewell party thrown by the billionaire Mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg, concluding his 12-year tenure.
Devorah Halberstam, Director of Foundation & Government Services of the Jewish Children’s Museum in Brooklyn, her son Shea Halberstam– community liaison to Assemblyman Karim Camara, and Michael Miller of the JCRC were the only Jewish community activists present.
The event, described as a “reception to celebrate New York City and 12 great years,” was held for a small number of upper-echelon administration allies and former high-ranking officials.
Held in a tent near Gracie Mansion, official residence of the Mayor soon to be filled by Bill de Blasio and his family, the event was attended by media personalities Katie Couric, Barbara Walters, Charlie Rose and Whoopi Goldberg.
Former Governor Mario Cuomo and other friends of the Bloomberg administration were there too to salute the 3-term Mayor. Bloomberg gave a touching speech, and a video was shown of the work he did in office.

Mrs Halbershtam, you look so pretty.
Wow amazing nice to c u doing so much good sf
Lets be clear Devorah Halbershtam isn’t there b/c of her Chabad role but simply because she supports Bloomberg’s dangerous anti gun agenda.
I congratulate this mayor on 12 years of hard work but lost respect for him when he went out against soda drinks instead of say dead beat dads or other more pressing social concerns
the streets of New York lookd CLEAN when Bloomberg was mayor
How fortunate we are here to have Ms Halberstam at the highest places helping to give our community a voice and representing Chabad so admirably
he represented the interests of the various communities around the city trying to help it grow economically while alo trying to enhance the quality of life in a megalopolis (hard to do).
Kudos Mayor Bloomberg, may you go from strength to strength
Thank you for representing us!
Do I see a future Jewish NYC mayor? #sheaformayor
Devorah Halberstam, you are a walking kiddush Hashem, representing us in the highest levels of society. Kol hakavod, keep up the great work!
He was a terrible mayor. A modern day Marie Antoinette. So far removed from the average person’s struggle.
Wow, a political event without Slavin! Amazing!
in the white house, at the mayor’s party. looking good!
