Materna Laboratories, a subsidiary of Osem Investments Ltd., has recently encountered a setback in its production line, leading to an anticipated shortage of Materna Mehadrin – Phase One powdered milk formula for infants aged 0 to 6 months.
This development comes as a result of the temporary halt in production due to the identification of microbial findings of Cronobacter sakazakii, which can cause a rare but potentially deadly infection in newborns.
Recently, the U.S.-based Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists decided to add Cronobacter sakazakii infections to the list of nationally notifiable conditions that health departments count and report to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
These findings were detected in the manufacturing process of the Mehadrin formula. Materna Laboratories said it consistently ensures that all of its products undergo comprehensive examinations and meet the strictest standards and regulations governing the production of infant nutrition before they are released into the market.
Israel’s Ministry of Health and Materna Laboratories emphasized that the contaminated formula did not reach the market. The products currently for sale are safe, they said, but they expect a possible shortage since production has been temporarily halted for several days.
Materna Mehadrin is the preferred baby formula for frum families in Israel, North America and elsewhere, as it is certified Cholov Yisroel by Badatz Eda Hacharedis of Jerusalem.
And is it only the 0-6 months??
pls share more details!
It says that it did not reach the shops.
But there may be a shortage as they stopped manufacturing for a few days so they can fix the problem.
