At least 25 people have been killed and 2,500 injured in massive explosions in Beirut, with rescue teams scrambling to save trapped civilians, the Independent reported.
The blast near the port in the Lebanese capital sent up a huge mushroom cloud-shaped shockwave, flipping over cars and damaging buildings miles away, CNN reported.
Footage from the scene captured the injured staggering through streets in the capital. One eyewitness described the scenes as “like an apocalypse.”
Former Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri said in a tweet that the scale of the losses after an explosion rocked the capital Beirut “was too great to be described” with the “biggest loss is the loss of dozens of dead and injured.”
There were conflicting reports on what caused the explosion, which was initially blamed on a major fire at a warehouse for firecrackers near the port, according to NNA.
Major General Abbas Ibrahim, of Lebanon’s General Security Directorate, said the massive blast was caused by confiscated “high explosive materials,” the Independent reported.
It would be “naive to describe such an explosion as due to fireworks,” Ibrahim told Lebanese TV.

On a well known Beirut Instagram page, the Lebanese THEMSELVES are blaming the Israelis for the explosion. for goodness sakes, they’ll do the stupidest things and unsafely hold ammunition in their own buildings, and when it explodes (no duh) they’ll blame the Jews. Unbelievable.

This is right after 4 terrorists were killed planting bombsin israel after coming thru the fence to lebanon. Israel has been expecting an attack from lebanon after in late june 2020 israel was threatened by lebanon.
The explosion was of nitrate explosives stored by hezbolla. Looks to me like Hashem just fought israels war with lebanon without israel having a war
