R’ Nachum Markowitz’s fleet of trucks carrying thousands of pounds of food and overflow pallets lining eastern Parkway are a hallmark of Tishrei in Lubavitch.
Now in its 43rd year, the annual Kidushim and distributions were encouraged and promoted by the Rebbe and have been enjoyed by generations of Chasidim.
Thousands of pounds of meat, fish, artisanal salads and dips, vegetables, fruit, beverages, breads and mezonos will nourish thousands over Yom Tov.
In his usual manner Markowitz is thankful to his donors and partners when praised about the project.
This year’s coordinated distributions are being sponsored by key partners in the program including the principal donor Rabbi Yitzchok Raitport. Rabbi and Rebbetzin Raitport have been the main sponsors of the Kidusha Raba marking the Yartzeit of their son Shalom Dovber who passed away on Simchas Torah morning 5761 upon returning from Tahalucha.
Massive signage honors the key sponsors of this vast project: The Drizin family, Yerachmiel and Rivkah Leah Jacobson and Simon Jacobson, the Davidof and Nachshinov families, the Gansbourg family, the Levi family, the Steinberg families, the Kabachnik family, SBA Loan Group, the Raskin family of Raskins Fruit, the Hadad Family of Ess and Bentch as well as members of Anash and congregation Lubavitch.
A moving tribute in memory of the Rebbes secretaries, Rabbi Binyomin Klein OBM who graciously assisted the Kidushim, and Rabbi Leibel Groner, who communicated the Rebbe’s instructions and blessings regarding the Kidushim, is prominently displayed.
Supporters of all levels have reported experiencing tremendous blessings through their support of the Kidusha Raba.

What makes Markowitz truly remarkable is not just his passion for Kiddush but also his unique pre-Kiddush ritual: the art of timing his cigarettes to perfection. Picture this: Markowitz, with a twinkle in his eye, savoring a cigarette in the crisp Crown Heights air before the Kiddush festivities commence. It’s not just a nicotine fix; it’s his way of mentally preparing himself for the grand event that is about to unfold. In those moments, he’s like a… Read more »
