Mr. Manny (Avrohom Menachem Mendel) Ingber, father of Dr. Reuben Ingber of Crown Heights, passed away on Wednesday, Nissan 26, 5778.
He was 96.
Mr. Ingber was born in 1921 in Bilgoraj, Poland at the end of WWI.
He was sent to Siberia for 3 years, and later served in the Russian Army, climbing the ranks until he became a Second Lieutenant.
Stationed outside Berlin, Germany, he bravely fought the Nazis for three years, receiving many medals of honor.
After the war, he was asked to remain in the army, but he refused. He traveled back to Poland by foot, and when he witnessed all the devastation, he traveled to a DP camp in Germany, where he was reunited with some of his family.
In 1941 he moved with his family to Canada.
He married Frieda Feder, sister to Dr. Morris Feder of Boro Park, and they moved to the US in 1960, settling in Brooklyn.
He is survived by his children, Dr. Reuben Ingber, husband of Devorah Halberstam, of Crown Heights, Dr. Leonard Ingber and Dr. Linda Ingber, 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
The funeral took place today.
Shiva will be observed at the Halberstam-Ingber residence.
