Maamar the Frierdiker Rebbe Prepared Was Discovered

A historic discovery is being released in time for this upcoming Shabbos, which marks the Chag Hageulah of Yud Beis-Yud Gimmel Tammuz: A newly discovered Maamar, in the holy handwriting of the Frierdiker Rebbe, prepared for the seventh anniversary of Yud Beis Tammuz, in the year 5694 (1934).

The Maamar was originally published by the Rebbe for Yud Beis Tammuz 5710, with added footnotes and short explanations. However, significant elements of the Maamar were missing.

When the Frierdiker Rebbe first prepared the Maamar, he wrote it out in his holy handwriting, gave it to his secretary to be typed, and then added significant edits to the typed version. When Kehos published the Maamar in 5710, they didn’t have access to the original handwritten version nor to the added handwritten edits. Those original documents remained in exile in the “old world,” and the publication was prepared based on a copy.

Through a remarkable sequence of events, the original transcripts recently arrived in the hands of the editorial staff and other unique kisvei yad of the Rabbeim. A careful compare-and-contrast was done between the two editions, creating a complete version that inserts the Frierdiker Rebbe’s handwritten edits, corrects the mistakes that crept into the copy used in 5710, and also includes the footnotes and explanations from the Rebbe’s edition.

The newly edited Maamar will also be included in the upcoming release of the new-and-improved edition of Sefer Hamaamarim 5694, which is currently being prepared for print by the talented team of Mareches Otzar Hachassidim of Kehos.
