Lt. Governor Kathleen Hochul met today with Brooklyn Jewish leaders in Crown Heights.
Hochul was accompanied by Crown Heights Jewish Community Council’s Chanina Sperlin and Eli Cohen for a lunch at Alenbi Restaurant.
She then visited Bais Rivkah girls High School, where she spoke to the students and met with the school’s board to discuss the importance of private education and ways of making tuition more affordable.
Later, Hochul visited the home of community activist Devorah Halberstam. She then met with government officials and community activists at the home of Chanina Sperlin.
JCC Crown Heights executive director Eli Cohen emphasized that Hochul’s visit focused on government, not politics.
“She wants to understand the needs of the Jewish community, particularly in education. We have a large private education network,” Cohen said.
Cohen said Hochul had visited Crown Heights once before and the lieutenant governor spoke to JCC leaders when they went to Albany earlier this month for Gov. Cuomo’s State of the State address.
Hochul, a former Buffalo congresswoman, ran as Cuomo’s running mate in 2014 and said she intends to do so again this year.
The governor and lieutenant governor are elected separately.
As a student of beis rivkah who sat through this experience i would like to give a big thank you to the lt. governor for coming. It really made me proud to be a part of this community, that even she was able to see that beis rivkah, the rebbe’s moised is the representation of the community!
Being the biggest school in community?
WOW- ANOTHER PHOTO-OP-JUST WHAT WE NEED (SIC). THE PROBLEM IS THAT THIS IS THE USUAL BEGINNING AND END OF THESE MEETINGS. DO WE EVER HEAR A FOLLOW UP THAT AFTER A MEETING WITH OUR “ELECTED OFFICIALS” SUCH AND SUCH PROGRAM OR FUNDING WAS INSTITUTED? IT JUST NEVER SEEMS TO HAPPEN, AND THE ONLY REMNANT FROM THESE MEETINGS ARE PICTURES FOR OUR OFFICIALS TO ADD TO THIER PERSONAL PHOTO ALBUMS.
Sorry,
You tried to stir up some…..
