At the Rosh Chodesh Nissan Minyan and Breakfast at the Chabad Shul in Newtown, Australia, led by Rabbi Eli Feldman, congregant Shaya Mizner was seen wearing a beautiful new pair of Rabbeinu Tam’s Tefilin.
“I remembered that on Simchas Torah this year he made a resolution to purchase them,” Rabbi Feldman tells COLlive. “And here he was wearing them.”
Mizner asked Rabbi Feldman, ”Do you want to hear how I paid for them?”
Mizner proceeded to explain that after his resolution, he had ordered the highest quality Rabbeinu Tam’s Tefilin written by a scribe overseas that he personally knows and respects. The cost of the purchase plus shipping was more than $2,000, he said.
“Shaya had no idea how he would have the funds to pay for them, but he trusted in Hashem that he would somehow be able to,” Rabbi Feldman relates.
When the Tefilin were ready and the time came for him to pay for them, Mizner discovered that on that very day, he won the lottery for about $2,000, the exact amount required to pay for the purchase plus shipping!
“This story reminded me of a similar incident that occurred about 20 years ago with a friend of mine,” Feldman says. “Who purchased a new and expensive pair of Tefilin. Shortly after that he received a check in the mail for the exact dollar amount that he had paid. It was unexpected profits on some shares that he had recently sold!”
“I am publicizing this story with Shaya’s permission, as an inspiration that when Hashem wants, He can always find a way to help,” Rabbi Feldman says.
