This year, Purim was celebrated on Thursday night and Friday in Yerushalayim. Because of the interesting timing, many Jerusalemites decided to extend the Purim meal into Shabbos.
Chabad of Baka, a warm community of Olim to Jerusalem, hosted an invigorating Purim party on Thursday night for about 200 people. The evening included Megillah reading with a slideshow for children, a light meal of bagels and spreads, and music. In between the DJ, band, and lively dancing, a dress up contest was held.
Tamir Goodman, basketball star and active community member, shared, “Purim night was so special. Attention to detail was awesome, and everyone had a blast!”
About 100 members of the Chabad of Baka community joined once again on Friday afternoon for a Purim seudah and Shabbos meal combined. Megillah reading and minchah were followed by washing and the beginning of the Purim seudah.
Candlelighting was an intermission, followed by Shalom Aleichem and Kiddush, and then a long and joyous Purim and Shabbos meal.
The three-course meal was delicious. The atmosphere was uplifting and included niggunim, dancing, and Divrei Torah~ and of course, l’chaims.
Only after bentching, was the Shabbos Maariv davened with great fervor and simcha.
In the words of one community member, “It was a really wonderful Purim, with an especially warm and happy atmosphere.”
Indeed, it was a unique Purim- and the longest one yet!
