The most populous municipality in the New York metropolitan area (outside New York City) has proclaimed a special day in honor of the Rebbe in the presence of a group of Chabad Shluchim in Long Island.
Government officials with the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County, representing a population of approximately 770,000 people, announced “A Day of Good Deeds” on Gimmel Tammuz, the 27th yartzeit of the Rebbe.
“The Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, of righteous memory, lived a life devoted to the service of world Jewry and humanity in general,” the proclamation read.
“His venerated vision, wisdom and leadership have contributed greatly to the promotion of education and the betterment of mankind,” it read.
Presenting it were Town of Hempstead Supervisor Don Clavin, Councilman Bruce Blakeman, Hempstead Town Clerk Kate Murray and Town of Hampstead Receiver Jeanine C. Driscoll.
The Chabad delegation included Rabbi Levi Gurkov and Rabbi Mendel Gurkov Chabad of Oceanside, Rabbi Anchelle Perl Chabad of Mineola and Rabbi Zalman Wolowik of Chabad of the Five Towns.
