After more than six months and thousands of hours of painstaking development, the long awaited Project Likkutei Sichos app will be released today, 11 Shevat, on the 1st anniversary of the project’s launch.
The beta version, which was developed by BerryTech, will be unveiled at a grand, live-streamed Siyum celebrating the completion of the fifth volume of Likkutei Sichos in the project’s cycle. The event will take place on Sunday night, 8pm, and can be accessed here.
The app’s arrival is a watershed moment for the Project, whose mission is to make Likkutei Sichos radically accessible. With over 5,000 video, audio, and PDF resources deposited directly into the palm of the student, the app promises to do exactly that.
Besides the tech, the event will feature a slate of presenters reflecting on the accomplishments of the Project’s participants over the past year. Rabbi Fishel Oster will deliver a “highlight reel” of some of the profound and inspiring concepts gleaned from the five completed volumes so far. Jewish music icon Benny Friedman will provide the musical inspiration.
Earlier in the day, at noon ET, another Siyum celebration will be held for women, who, according to PLS’s internal data, comprise half of the total registered sicha students.
Renowned lecturer Mrs. Rivkah Slonim, whose live, weekly sicha class is a cornerstone of the Project, will share remarks. Mrs. Chana Sara Danow, a shliach to the University of Leeds, will speak about the impact of Project Likkutei Sichos in Leeds together with a local University student. Chabad singer Esther Freeman will perform throughout the event. The event can be joined here.
Although an in-person Siyum is not yet possible due to the persistence of Covid, Project Likkutei Sichos is using the unique opportunity to invite devotees to celebrate their accomplishments with a “Siyum at Home.”
“We’re asking all participants to gather their family and friends and celebrate their learning in whatever way appeals to them,” said Rabbi Shmuli Nachlas of Project Likkutei Sichos. “Take videos or photos of your private siyum and send them to Projectlikkuteisichos.org/upload for a special documentary being produced, and we will send you a VIP post-siyum celebration kit.”
As the first, whirlwind year of Project Likkutei Sichos wraps up, the focus of the organization remains set on their goal. As Rabbi Yisrael Wilhelm puts it, “More Jews learning more sichos in as many ways as possible.”
