A grand Siyum event will take place today to celebrate the completion of 8th Unity Torah – Sefer Torah Hakloli.
The event will be held on Wednesday, 7 Shvat, at 6:15 PM ET, as a Drive-In event in Toronto and will be broadcast live around the globe, and will be streamed live by Chabad.org and on COLlive.com.
The 8th Sefer Torah Hakloli is being completed in memory of Avremele Lieberman a”h, the son of Rabbi Mendy and Itty Lieberman, Shluchim in Toronto, ON, who tragically passed away a year ago on Yud Alef Shvat.
LIVE:
The Torah is unique, having been started by the Vaad of Sefer Hatorah Hakloli of Eretz Yisrael 5 years ago at the Kinus Hashluchim. Since then, hundreds of thousands of Jews, including over 25 thousand IDF soldiers, have united in acquiring letters in the Unity Torah, the 8th since 1982, at the Rebbe‘s instruction.
The siyum began in Israel with the Torah being brought to the Knesset for the first time in history and had many members of the Knesset write letters, including Israel’s Chief Rabbi David Lau and Jerusalem’s Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar.
Last year, after Avremele Lieberman’s tragic passing, his family turned their grief into action, initiating a campaign to complete the Torah, which still had 100,000 letters still unclaimed to be completed, in his memory.
His family, together with students of the Lubavitcher Yeshiva of Toronto and fellow shluchim and friends, launched a campaign to complete the Sefer Torah Hakloli in Avremele’s zechus.
Over 75,000 Jewish men, women and children from all walks of life were inscribed into this Unity Sefer Torah belonging to klal Yisrael in honor of Avremele a”h.
The Siyum will mark the first Siyum Sefer Torah Haklali to take place in Canada, with the Torah the first Unity Torah to remain in Canada.
The historic event will stream live around the world, and will feature messages from the chief rabbis of Israel, a video presentation about ois b’sefer Torah, and a message and birchas kohanim from Shliach Danny Cohen of Chevron. There will be live music by singer Shlomo Simcha.
“When the world is trembling and shaking from all the effects of the pandemic and politics, the Torah – being the blueprint of the world – brings the world the strength it needs to realign itself with Hashem’s plan and brings healing and strength to all of klal Yisrael,” Avremele’s parents said. “Especially a Torah written for klal Yisrael, uniting klal Yisrael in this Torah.”
The Sefer Torah Hakloli has been led by Rabbi Moshe Shmuel Oirechman, Chairman of the vaad for sefer Torah hakloli, after the Siyum of first one requested by the Rebbe, which the Rebbe listened to an account of live on the phone.
Rabbi Oirechman asked the Rebbe if he should continue to write a second sefer Torah, to which the Rebbe responded that he should, on the condition that he will not stop until every Jew in the world has a letter in one of these sifrei Torah of klal Yisrael.
With the completion of the 8th Torah on Wednesday, the 9th one will immediately begin to be written. There are already many who are signed up for the 9th Sefer Torah Hakloli.
