As Israel imposed a partial lockdown to counter the resurgence of Covid-19, the elderly and needy in the country are once again looking to Colel Chabad to receive support.
Beginning on Friday afternoon, parts of Jerusalem, Beit Shemesh, Lod, Ramle and Kiryat Malachi became “restricted zones” for 7 days until Friday morning, July 17.
As the longest-running charity in the Holy Land, Colel Chabad has been assisting the most vulnerable people who are isolated in their homes.
On a regular basis, Colel Chabad is assisting over 11,000 families in Israel with groceries each month. “With the pandemic, we are assisting an additional 200 families in Jerusalem on a weekly basis and are delivering 3,000 meals a day to those who are isolated,” says Rabbi Sholom Duchman, Executive Director of Colel Chabad.
To share the message of hope they have been providing and to allow Jews in the Diaspora to show solidarity with Israel, Colel Chabad is hosting a special live broadcast on Sunday, 20 Tammuz – July 12.
“Hope and Healing – Gaining Strength from Maimonides’ Wisdom” will feature a Siyum Harambam conclusion ceremony of the 3 daily learning cycles of Rambam’s Mishneh Torah and Sefer Hamitzvos.
Speakers include:
Jerusalem Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar
Israel’s Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi David Lau
Jewish Agency for Israel Chairman Isaac Herzog
Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion
Keynote address:
Rabbi Mendel Kaplan, Executive Director of Chabad Flamingo in Thornhill, Ontario, and member of Toronto’s Vaad HaRabbanim (Council of Orthodox Rabbis).
