Today, the First of Av, begins the traditional “Nine Days of Mourning” for the destruction of both the First (423 BCE) and Second Holy Temple (70 CE). Both Temples were set ablaze in Jerusalem on the same Hebrew date, the 9th of Av.
This period is always marked as the saddest time on the Jewish calendar.
Which leads to the question: Why does G-d allow pain and suffering? Why did He create times of sadness and mourning? Why do bad things happen? What’s with all the chaos we are witnessing in the world?
Rabbi Ari Shishler Director of Chabad Strathavon in South Africa, will discuss tonight: “It was the Best of Times when it was the Worst of Times”.
Rabbi Shishler will offer lessons and insights we can glean from the current pandemic and offer an inspiring message for the “Nine Days”.
Rabbi Shishler is a popular teacher who regularly lectures around the globe. he hosts a weekly radio show in South Africa and is the rabbi of Facebook’s largest Ask the Rabbi group.
