A dramatic, awe-inspiring event organized by Yad Lachim and hosted by COLlive for the global Chabad community will set the stage for an evening you don’t want to miss. This upcoming Tuesday, Dec. 8th at 8 pm. Maya, the Jewish daughter of a high ranking Hamas sheikh, will share her incredible story live.
Yad Lachim, which rescues thousands of Jewish women trapped in Arab villages, usually travels to communities around the world sharing stories of those impacted, but in recent months has transitioned over to virtual events.
Dollars from the Rebbe are gifted to those pledging to partner with the organization in support of their work.
“The feedback from the communities we’ve brought our events to is amazing,” said Yossi Eliav, Director of Special Projects at Yad Lachim. “People are inspired, crying, laughing; they’re deeply touched.”
Now with the popularity of Zoom, powerful stories such as Maya’s can reach all corners of the globe.
Raised in the Arab village of her father’s family, Maya endured unfathomable abuse and hardships, a fate similar to her mother.
“I know I’m taking a risk by sharing my story, but I also know that I’m saving lives,” Maya said at a past online event.
As a young girl, Maya would join her father to regular meetings of Hamas leaders. She sat on Arafat’s lap and visited him a few times as a child. Forced to marry her Arab cousin at age 15, she later escaped persecution and danger and made it her life mission to help other girls in similar situations.
“She’s a very courageous woman with a real life story straight from the movies!” said Rabbi Mendel Kalmenson, director of Chabad of Belgravia, London.
