A child’s decision to distance themselves from their parents’ religion is bound to be a source of friction and contention. For many, this becomes insurmountable and the relationship between child and parent is never the same, possibly severed completely. In instances where one parent is more understanding and tolerant than the other, this can also create friction and disagreement between the parents themselves.
How do we bridge this divide? More importantly, what’s at stake if we don’t do it?
Join Rabbi Shais Taub, Rabbi Dov Oliver, Shana Rubelow and Eli Nash as they explore possible ways to bridge the gap between religious parents and children who rebel.

Stop using ‘rebellion’ as a stand-in for autonomy!!
Stop making it ‘us’ parents vs. ‘them’ rebels!!
With all due respect to the panelists – please speak to some parents and adult children who have maintained mutual love and RESPECT for one another!
Define ‘religious’ – honestly, is it about G0d or is it about community??
Please recognize that the ‘religious’ parents just sin differently from their ‘rebellious’ kids.
If we can keep these ideas uppermost in the discussion, we might get somewhere.
You must, absolutely must, address the huge hypocrosies among ‘religious’ people. You cannot, absolutely not, talk about bridging a gap when kids say that they won’t live a kind of life where they see hypocrisy reign supreme. And, you absolutely cannot try to mitigate or dismiss or in any way justify what wrong even when it’s in the name of ‘religion.’
Let’s hope that these issues, or a start, will be addressed head-on.
if your listening on now, theyr literally discussing everything you talk and ask about
Let’s not judge ‘religious’ just by religiosity of ritual. Let’s judge ‘religious’ also by basic human behaviour that the Torah demands. After all, two sides to the Luchos. We should no more call the one who’s not keeping Shabbos ‘rebbelious’ as the one who is so envious of his neighbor that he bears him ill will as rebellious. Which one is the religious one??
