A capacity-crowd of women were ‘wowed’ this Chanukah at Levi Yitzchok Library’s Annual Gala Concert by the mesmerizing line up of star-performers that lit up its red-velvet curtained stage.
Hot drinks and Chanukah treats in hand, the audience were treated to a non-stop program featuring a wide range of talents and musical genres ranging from Chassidic niggunim; to heartfelt personal expressions and original compositions; to opera, jazz, drumming, and more.
The ‘Night of Lights’ featured pianist/composers Sarah Dukes and Shoshana Michel, singer/songwriters Riv Eilfort, Esther Freeman, Shaina Mushka Einstein and Liat Rorick, soprano Chava Shapiro, and the four-woman band Bulletproof Stockings including lead singer Perl Wolfe, drummer Dalia Shusterman, violinist Dana Pestun and cellist Elisheva Maister. The performance ended with an impromptu dance party which lasted late into the evening.
More than an exclusive, gala fundraiser event, the evening was part of the library’s ongoing vision to create community programs that celebrate and share the deep beauty of Yiddishkeit and encourage every individual to nurture a deeper essential connection to the Aibishter.
The evening featured the theme “What Does a Miracle Feel Like?” where both performers and listeners were invited to explore the magnitude and richness of a miraculous experience and the different emotions it evokes. Eight emotive responses including gratitude, happiness, awe and pride, were expressed through the evening’s music, and made for a deep, profound event that left women and ladies feeling ‘moved and uplifted’.
The Levi Yitzchok Library thanks the attendees and the artists who joined in creating this inspiring event and invites the community to come enjoy the book library as well as the many, different programs on offer.
