The Mesivta Lubavitch Toronto marked the inauguration of the Raksin Library, Tuesday, almost one year from the murder of Reb Yosef Yitzchok Raksin HY”D.
With over one hundred attendees, including anash from the local community, friends and family travelling in from as far as New York for the event, the Mesivta Zal was full to overflowing.
The project of the Raksin Library, undertaken by Laizer Raksin, son of Reb Yosef Yitzchok, and his class – shiur gimmel of the Mesivta – is the crowning feature of the already newly renovated zal.
An unbelievable effort was put in over the year by the bochurim, offering people the ability to partner with and support this worthy project. All the bookcases in the zal were replaced with beautifully custom designed bookcases. Hundreds of Seforim were purchased making up the main body of the library.
Rabbi Gorman, Laizer’s Maggid shiur over the year – opened the evening, expounding on the concept that a child brings honor to his father – through his actions and deeds.
Rabbi Oster, Menahel of the Mesivta – spoke of the power a person has to accomplish things that are important to him – specifically how Laizer and everyone involved, prioritized this project, coming together to make it a reality.
Laizer then made a siyum on the entire Mesechta Gittin and spoke about his connection to his father.
The guest speaker of the evening, Rabbi Levi Garelik, spoke on Hilchos Bais Habechira and their relevance nowadays. The four Raksin brothers – Zalman, Mendel, Avrohom Boruch and Laizer cut the ribbon, ceremoniously marking the opening of the Library.
Earlier in the week, the bochurim prepared a wide array of questions on hashkofo, Moshiach, mivtzoim and more, to have the opportunity of hearing Rabbi Garelik answer them during a Question and Answer session, and clarify many areas pertinent to Yeshiva bochurim. Tens of questions were addressed and many topics covered. Following the Q & A session, the formal part of the evening ended with Mariv.
Later on Rabbi Garelik sat down and farbrenged for a few hours with the bochurim, relating many shlichus-related stories and encounters, moments with the Rebbe and meetings with all sorts of Yidden that he comes in contact with.
Special thanks to Nachman Perl for the countless hours he spent, designing the shelves, Shtender and Bima, working on them and building them to perfection.
