The Yomim Noraim are known for the teffilos and time spent in shul. Shul programming for kids has often revolved around allowing parents to daven in the space and tranquility that they need but Kol Yakov Yehuda was certain that they could find a way to make tefillah on Rosh Hashana, meaningful and attainable to children without sacrificing on the minyan and a full davening.
What was born was the Junior Congregation of LA’s Rosh Hashana minyan. The minyan, which just enjoyed its third successful year, encourages fathers and mothers to join (or send their children) for a davening that is unique and very meaningful.
The program revolves around a system whereby each section of davening is given a value, completion of the section turns into individual rewards and overall completion leads to the earning of a trip.
The chayus was palpable and when presented with an organized program, over 120 children (and some of their parents) rose to the occasion by not only sitting through a three hour davening but by spending the time in the appropriate teffilah zone.
As a trailblazing junior congregation, the Rebbe’s Diamond Daveners as they are affectionately known is always seeking a way to increase the connection and Derech Eretz that children have for Tefillah. The upshot of this is many empowerment skills that are learned along the way.
As a congregation with primarily unemployed congregants, Kol Yakov Yehuda and its many amazing programs are largely funded by the generous donation of people from all over the world through the annual Maftir Yonah Campaign.
Join today and get the honor of Maftir Yonah along with the zechus of supporting the empowerment of Unzere Kinder, primarily through davening.
