A plan to rename the block on Lefferts Avenue that is home to Campus Chomesh – Beis Rivkah as “Schneerson Square,” scheduled for this week, has been postponed.
The announcement was made by Rabbi Avraham Shemtov, Chairman of the Board of Associated Beth Rivkah Schools in Brooklyn, NY:
Dear Friends שיחיו,
As we were preparing for the dedication ceremony of the naming of the square in front of Campus Chomesh, it was brought to our attention that an answer came from the Rebbe’s secretariat regarding the possibility of renaming a street to bear the Frierdiker Rebbe’s name.
We were unable to independently verify and fully determine all the details, or if this applies in our case.
The Board has therefore decided to postpone the naming of the square until more clarity can be reached on the matter so that the naming be done in the proper way.
We appreciate your understanding,
Rabbi Avraham Shemtov
BS”D # 4 I don’t think you fully followed the point which was a response to # 3that the Rebbes position was not known, but to elaborate and hopefully clarify, sometimes the Rebbe’s positions are not made public until the times comes when the topic is relevant, such as in this case, thus it is not anyone’s fault if the Rebbes position was unknown till know
Schneerson Square in front of Bais Chaya Mushka?!?
From what I understand that was named after gimmel Tammuz
Rabbiner Schneersohn Platz in Vienna? Any insight? How did that happen, and is it against the Horaos as well..?
There were earlier efforts to name the the service section of Eastern PRKW between Kingston and Brooklyn after Frediker Rebbe and Rebbe’s response was no, that the last name Shneerson was not to be hung up on the streets
Bh they are exploring this and I am sure they will make a final educated decision based on the Rebbes horo’os
they found a proof not to name it?
Don’t know if I’m following you correctly, but what the Rebbe told to the Mazkirus, and or other individuals, would pertain to the general public, in that particular instance, then, as well as now, in this matter. It’s foolish, at best, not to recognize this.
BS”D I have to differ with you # 3 bc I believe there are matters the Rebbe told only certain individuals like the mazkirus and not to the general public
in general, we should know what the Rebbe advises in all areas
I am happy to hear that this was brought to their attention and that they are taking this concern seriously. Regardless of what the outcome will be, this shows that they really want to do the right thing.
