The 4th annual Yocheved Gourarie Kindness Award is now open and offering the Crown Heights community an opportunity to recognize and honor the often silent heroes among us - teachers and friends. Full Story, Video
Following the huge success of last year’s Kindness Blossoms Initiative, we are delighted to announce the launch of the 4th annual Yocheved Gourarie Kindness Award, offering the Crown Heights community an opportunity to recognize and honor the often silent heroes among us – the incredible teachers and friends that genuinely care and go above and beyond their call of duty.
Nominations are NOW OPEN! Nominate and share your kindness stories here.
“To be Kind is more important than to be right. Many times what people need is not a brilliant mind that speaks but a special heart that listens” -The Rebbe
Did you know that kindness is contagious? That doing an act of goodness, creates a ripple effect that is so far reaching? One word of acknowledgement, one act of sincerity, one smile in the right moment – and you can literally change a life forever.
Kindness Blossoms, under the direction of The Meaningful Life Center, is spreading kindness. Teachers, classmates and parents around Crown Heights are amazed at the impact kindness is getting around the schools.
As one teacher put it, “Your kindness campaign is changing our community. The children need this and we are so grateful for your campaign.” And a parent sent in these powerful words, “Ever since my son was nominated, he has changed for the good. He feels seen, appreciated and accepted for who he is. Thank you.”
How can you get involved?
1. Nominate a current Crown Heights teacher who has made an impact on your life through acts of kindness, large and small. Eligible to win $5,000!
2. Nominate a current classmate (in a Crown Heights school) who had your back, who was there for you and impacted your life through kindness. Eligible to win $500!
3. Share a story of a kindness that was extended to you – by anyone! This is not limited to a current teacher/student/Crown Heights etc. We will showcase this on our website and highlight the individual who shared kindness.
4. Donate to this incredible cause and help us transform the world, one act of kindness at a time.
5. Pay it forward. Do an act of kindness. Create the ripple.
6. Not in Crown Heights but want to get involved? Let’s work together to bring this Kindness Blossoms Award to your town! Please reach out to [email protected]and let’s make it happen.
The YGKA team have been tirelessly partnering with schools all around Crown Heights to bring this incredible initiative to light, encouraging the students to highlight and share their experiences of kindness and care.
“My family and I are deeply honored that Yocheved’s name and legacy is attached to this important initiative. I’m once again looking very forward to visiting the schools and having meaningful discussions with our students, inspiring one another, and all of us, to make kindness a priority,” says Avremi Gourarie, the father of Yocheved Gourarie – who empitzomed kindness and inspired this award.

“Our years in school are some of our most formative. Beyond what we learn, it is the people, friends and moments that matter most―when we are seen, accepted and loved for who we are.”
