A large crowd showed up at the Marina Roscha Synagogue and Jewish Community Center in Moscow on Shabbos Acharon Shel Pesach, the last day of Pesach.
The community was invited days in advance to partake in “Moshiach’s meal,” a custom instituted by Rabbi Israel Baal Shem Tov, founder of Chassidism, and held in all Chabad communities worldwide.
It is the last day of Pesach that is particularly associated with Moshiach and the future redemption and the Haftarah for this day is from Isaiah 11, which describes the promised future era of universal peace and divine perfection.
A large meal was prepared in Moscow for participants with two separate halls designated for men and women. Four cups of wine were poured for all as customary.
Leading the celebration was Rabbi Berel Lazar, Head Shliach and Chief Rabbi of Russia, who told stories and words of inspiration during the interludes of singing niggunim.
Also attending was Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Kuperman, a Mashpia in the Chabad Yeshiva in Kiryat Gat, Israel, who continued the farbrengen until 3 in the morning, concluding an 8 hour event of anticipation for the ultimate redemption.
