On Sunday, Lubavitcher Yeshiva in Crown Heights and Kosherlessons.com hosted the biggest chess tournament to ever take place in Crown Heights, with over 250 participants.
The program began with participants watching a few professional chess lessons (a sneak peek from the soon to be released chess course on kosherlessons.com), which was followed by the 2 chess tournaments.
One was a regular chess tournament, and the other was a blitz tournament with 5 minute timers for more advanced chess players.
A special guest was then introduced, Yaacov Norowitz, who is an international chess master and 5 time world open blitz champion. He is also the top Frum chess player in the world.
Yaacov then played some simultaneous exhibitions with a twist – every board would also have a timer! Although Yaacov did end up winning all 21 games, it was definitely a challenge which needed tremendous concentration.
“After seeing the excitement the boys had playing chess, we are happy to announce an after-school program for those that would like to take their chess skills to the next level,” said Rabbi Chaim Mayzlesh of Kosherlessons.com.
