1280 President Street is available…
A new property listing on a posh and leafy street in the heart of the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn is bound to garner attention – and bidders.
“This freestanding mansion set back from the street by lush front lawns is finally on the market after being well cared for by the same owner for over 45 years,” the listing reads.
The owners were R’ Shmuel Isaac and Miriam Popack OBM, a Chabad Chassidic couple who raised a family of 6 children, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
R’ Shmuel Isaac, who passed in 2012, owned and managed buildings and properties. Mrs. Miriam, who passed in 2020, served as an educator for many years and coordinated the mid-winter conventions for the N’shei UBnos Chabad organization. Both had a close connection with the Rebbe whose house is a few doors down at 1304 President Street.
The majestic-looking 2-story house was built in 1925 on 3,584 sqft. The floor plan shows 7 bedrooms, 2 kitchens, 3 and a half bathrooms, an open floor dining and living room, a study room, a spacious basement room, and a garage.
The asking price of the property is $4 million, COLlive.com was told.
The broker selling the home is Popack’s grandson Yaakov Feldman of Signature Property Realty in Brooklyn, NY.

I sincerely hope another chassid buys this. Not to outside people. Lately a few prime properties such as kings county nursery has been sold to foreign developers.
The houses in east flatbush cost almost
That
Why aren’t people grabbing it.
Beautiful move in condition…
East flatbush you pay almost and have to rebuild
Grab it
Grab it? A bargain?
People can barely pay rent let alone the electric bill let alone PRESCHOOL tuition.
The disconnect between the common IYH working person and the “grab it, it’s a bargain” crowd is disappointing.
May Hashem grant us all the parnoso we NEED and the wisdom and understanding on how to appreciate it.
Although many young families are struggling, there are people who can afford to invest in such a wonderful property. Don’t be so quick to decide!
Being in real estate myself, I find it surprisingly well priced for the CH market.
They are probably asking for 5 million if a simple house on Montgomery is asking for 2.7
Not a big deal, I’ll just ask my father for a small loan of $4 million.
Supply a demand. Zillow is obviously under estimating due to the uniqueness.
Very much move in condition, but dated.
It will take another million to bring this magnificent home into the 21st century. It’s immaculate but stuck in the 1990’s, if not earlier. I hope it is bought by a chasid who appreciates the street & the neighbors. I wish it was possible for ordinary families to buy it, but these homes were built to last, and I’m sure it’s a fair price.
I’d love to see how it will be renovated.
Crown Heights: only wealthy Lubavitchers allowed
Spent many Shabbosim in this beautiful home with the wonderful Popacks. They had many guests like me.
when i wrote that , i was kidding, but kid me not east Flatbush run down homes are almost there and people are buying the streets off.
Melamdim
Teacher in girls school and gutting and renovating,
Dnt ask me how they can afford it bec i rent in an apartment
Both my husband and myself have had jobs all our lives.
let me tell you the amount of guests that went through our l little apartment, with no millions to cover the bills.
If you have an open home size is not the reason your home is open.
I would love to buy it and live on the Rebbes block, dream come true!!
Don’t ever tell me CA is expensive.
$4 million for an outdated house In a dangerous area where your packages are stolen, your car smashed and daily mugging
Oh right , tuition is 1/4 of anywhere else
Wherever you go with big cities like Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, ……..
You’re going to pay the price.
And out of the New York area
California, Hollywood, five million minimum.
Florida……..
I’m sure you can name other cities and states!
Oh. What about taxes??????????
Ever thought about that??????
It’s the way how it goes.
This is the price you pay.
Lubavitch Inc. Should purchase the property and turn it into much needed office space
Why so much negativity???
Good for the family! They’ve done so much good for all those years and have every right to sell at it market value. Sorry if you can’t afford it but this is an estate and it is being sold by the family at fair market value like it is done by millions of individuals everyday all over the world. The whining is out of place!
What bitterness?
Pointing out that the neighborhood is completely priced out of the range of an average family is not bitterness.
OMG that house is so 1990s and needs a million or two to fix up is not bitterness. It’s unbelievable. People simply can’t relate to such large amounts of money and discussions about them as though it’s just chump change.
If someone (who did well) and invested the rite way. No Chochmas. They should sell real estate less than the value of the property. And willing to loose, but survive on their investment! It will make a huge difference in a our community. For example: A (small) family (or big family) what? Makes 200k how can you afford such a property? Even earning close to 500k. Oh, and what if they loose their Jobs? “Even with savings” There’s absolutely no way keeping up with your mortgage even making 750k. Yes! the value of property went up in sky, but still?… Read more »
For reasons that we cannot fathom Hashem makes some people wealthy and others not, though they often put equal amount of effort into earning parnassah. Stop making it sound like those whom Hashem blessed with wealth have done something wrong. May they continue to give very large sums to tzedakah and be able to buy luxury homes. It shouldn’t make others so angry or jealous, which is a feeling that is coming through in some comments. P.S. No, I’m not from the wealthy ones or anything close to it; I just accept the good that Hashem has chosen to give… Read more »
You are reading anger or jealousy (words that you used) but that is not what is written.
The simple fact is that most people cannot relate to what is being described in comments as an “out of date” house that costs MILLIONS just to purchase.
Nobody doubted Hashem here.
Just pointing out that the prices for housing are way out of reach for most people. The way these figures are thrown around is astonishing.
but upon closer inspection it needs serious work. the decor and behind the walls need gut reno job. your looking at 300 – 400 min just to get it close to modern situation. like all areas crown heights has its fancy properties… why should chevra movie to the 5 town when we can own a 5 star place in Brooklyn. lets no get jealous at this time of year. parnassa is in hashems hands and even just living simple is a blessing. oy to be in the rebbe schunan even in a 2 bedroom and not going to fancy eateries… Read more »
My family lives in a small apartment, yet we host many gatherings in our dining room and our kids sleep on the dining room floor when guests come. My family would love to buy the house. My children say they can host the whole bais rivka high school and have guests like Moshe rubashkin if we get the house. If you have any ideas how we can purchase our house, that would be a huge help as our apartment is quite small. 3474968251.
