The levaya of Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Kalmenson OBM, Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshiva Beis Dovid Shlomo in New Haven, Connecticut, continued on Thursday, passing by 770 Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights on the way to burial at Old Montefiore Cemetery in Queens.
Rabbi Kalmenson, one of the most noted talmidei chachamim in Lubavitch, passed away suddenly on the first night of Rosh Hashana 5786. He was 70.
He suddenly passed away on Rosh Hashanah morning.
A crowd gathered after Rosh Hashana at the Yeshiva on Ellsworth Avenue, still in shock over the great loss, for the beginning of the Levaya. Rabbi Kalmenson had educated generations of bochurim over the years and has had an impact on the growing Chabad community in New Haven.
He is survived by his siblings Rabbi Yechiel Menachem Mendel Kalmenson – Brunoy, France; Mrs. Doba Raiza Vorst – Amsterdam, Netherlands; Mrs. Chaya Uminer – Crown Heights; Mrs. Baila Goldstein – Crown Heights; Rabbi Yisroel Shimon Kalmenson – Crown Heights; Mrs. Shterna Spritzer – Crown Heights, and Chanale Kalmenson – Holland.
The Kalmanson family will be sitting shiva at the family home, 114 Colony Rd, New Haven, CT.
