A large crowd turned out for the Levaya of Rabbi Menachem (Mendy) Raitport obm, a longtime Crown Heights resident and activist who passed away in a tragic accident at the age of 57.
Raitport, a devoted husband and father to 8 children, was the former owner of Crown Kosher Meat Market on Kingston Avenue.
He ran for public office and was passionate about making positive changes in the government, local safety, and the educational system.
Tragically, he was killed in a car accident in Georgia while driving back to New York after spending Pesach in Florida.
He is survived by his wife, Esther, and children, Eliyahu, Yehuda, Shloimy, Dovid, Dubi, Avrami, Zevi, and Chanoch.
He is also survived by his parents, Harav Yitzchok and Shaindel Raitport of Boro Park, noted philanthropists, and siblings.
He is also survived by his father-in-law, Rabbi Yisroel Chaim Lazar of Crown Heights.
Shiva is taking place in his house 496 East New York Ave. until Wednesday morning.

How tragic. He was a friend of our chidren. The pain is felt deeply, Perhaps we can hear his gentle voice urging us to have a bit more goodwill to each other, fargin happily to each other, take the trouble to greet people you meet with a smiling happy countenance, and to take care not to encroach on someone else’s domain.
