Members of the ALIYA Institute were celebrating Lag BaOmer Sunday at the center on E New York in Crown Heights when they were joined by an unexpected guest.
The annual Aliya Lag-B-Que Bonfire was held across a street from Campus Chomesh where Rabbi Yochanan Zehnwirth, head of Talmud Torah Beis Avrohom in Lakewood, NJ, was attending a simcha in the Rose Hall.
Hearing the singing, he walked over and asked the youngsters in the entrance what this place was. The educator was deeply moved and and came in only to be handed a microphone.
He proceeded to talk to the boys about Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai. All there were pleasantly surprised to see this unexpected visitor and listened quietly to every word he said.
After sharing his stories, he sang and danced with the crowd. “It was a truly beautiful scene which will be remembered by all,” Aliya Director Rabbi Moishe Feiglin told COLlive.com.
