This past Friday, Tomchei Temimim Way came alive with laughter and excitement as NCFJE, in partnership with Lubavitcher Yeshiva, hosted an unforgettable Lag B’Omer Street Fair, the first of its kind to take place on a Friday in Crown Heights.
Timed to follow the beautiful Lag B’Omer rally at Maple Street Park, the event marked a rare calendar moment, as Lag B’Omer won’t fall on a Friday again for another two decades. Despite early morning rain, the fair drew an incredible turnout and became the highlight of the day’s festivities.
Leading the way was Lubavitcher Yeshiva, whose Talmidim from Kitos Zein and Ches transformed a full block into a carnival wonderland, running dozens of creative booths and games. Their chayus and leadership were evident as they welcomed children and families from across the neighborhood with warmth and pride.
Alongside thrilling rides and a festive atmosphere, the street fair showcased the spirit of unity and joy that defines Lag B’Omer. The contagious sounds of music and laughter filled the air, celebrating both tradition and community.
Thanks to the generous sponsorship of MASK (Mothers and Fathers Aligned Saving Kids) and IDCC (Interborough Developmental and Consultation Center), the entire event was free of charge ensuring that every child could take part in the simcha.
One parent told COLlive, “These types of community events are not only fun, they’re meaningful. They help our children feel connected to something bigger.”
As the event drew to a close in preparation for Shabbos, children said reluctant goodbyes to the rides and booths, their faces glowing with joy and gratitude.
“We thank our main sponsors, as well as the many individuals who contributed to allow us to cover the expenses of both programs,” said Rabbi Shimon Hecht of NCFJE. “It is truly heartwarming when we receive support from so many people, and gives us the encouragement to do more in the future. May they be blessed with revealed good in honor of the Rashbi.”
Lubavitcher Yeshiva and NCFJE extend heartfelt thanks to the entire Crown Heights community for their support, and to the many families who reached out with words of appreciation. The success of this unique Friday Lag B’Omer fair has set a new standard for community celebrations in Crown Heights for years to come.
