A kosher liquor store in Bttooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood is considering joining a growing national ban on Russian manufactured products over Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
Several companies and brands have taken measures in protest to exclude Russian players from sports and end partnerships with Russian businesses and government, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
The measures are meant to isolate Russia and condemn its actions that go beyond the U.S. government’s economic sanctions President Joe Biden announced last week. The governors of New Hampshire, Ohio and Utah already ordered stores to stop selling Russian products until further notice.
“What’s going on in Ukraine is on our minds and we’re considering it,” Menachem Reich, owner of Wine by the Case, told COLlive.com on Thursday.
According to the Reuters news agency, over 9,000 deaths have been reported as of Thursday morning. Some 1 million people have been displaced and are considered refugees – among them thousands of Jews.
“You hear what’s happening and you ask yourself ‘what can I do?’ So we’re debating whether this is the right approach,” he said about a possible ban.
If he moves ahead with it, the ban will take hold in his popular store on Empire Blvd. and his website kosherwinedirect.com. Among brands that may be affected are Russian Standard, Hammer and Sickle, Kutskova and Stolichnaya.
Reich said he was open to receiving input from the public on the issue and would make a decision that will be implemented by this coming Shabbos.

The whole world is boycotting Russia because it is the right thing to do. For Jewish and kosher to do as well is also the right thing.
Why we don’t take other actions is a separate question. A) Maybe we should and B) maybe it’s not as a severe action/reaction etc…
Bottom line, sanctions and boycotts of this magnitude seems to be working and we should do our part as well.

The Ukraine of today is not the Ukraine of 70 years ago. There are hundreds of thousands of Yidden that live there peacefully. In addition, the top government positions are held by Yidden.
