Chabad of China has a branch to serve the hundreds of businessmen and merchants that flock to the city of Yiwu in central Zhejiang Province near the central eastern coast.
The second center in the city is being run by Shliach Rabbi Yossi Goldstein and is offering a shul with minyanim 3 times a day, Torah classes and a kosher restaurant.
The “China Small-Commodity Market” has for 6 consecutive years topped China’s 100 top open markets and was for successive years listed as “China’s civilized open market.”
Many Jews from the United States, Canada and European countries frequent the city that is also known as a regional tourist destination.
Chabad Yiwu and its two branches were established 3 years ago by Rabbi Mordechai Avtzon, Head Shliach to China.
I went for a day to Yiwu, one of the ugliest places I’ve been to in China, and heard that there is a shilach in town.
I said… poor guy, I must go visit…
I knocked on the door, had just 30 minutes before catching my train back to Shanghai…
He opened and stared at me: ” A LUBAVAITCHER!”
Then he sat down to eat dinner with me…
So sweet.. That is a REAL shliach.
And now there are TWO centers?
OMG!!!
the guy in the 1st pic on the top left w/ his wife came to our chabad house and he made this REALLY cool thing for me AND we went there (to yiwu) for kapporos b/c we don’t yet have a shochet and Rabbi Yossi is one AND shalom, (little) Mendy!
