Learning at the Crown Heights Kolel L’horaah Ma’asis has begun with renewed energy after the Yomim Tovim of Tishrei.
The Kolel, which began its second year on Rosh Chodesh Elul with over 30 yungeleit, has recently completed a fundraising campaign, enabling many others to partner in the zchus of the daily learning.
After the huge success of the campaign, which raised $770,000, the Kolel expanded even more to 40 Yungeleit who learn daily at Bais Gimpel Shul in Crown Heights.
This week, Rabbi Elimelech Lebowitz, Dayan in Agudas Harabonim and the Kolel’s Magid Shiur for Hilchos Niddah, visited and gave practical training to the Yungeleit.
The Kolel aims to teach, educate and train Lubavitcher yungeleit who seek to dedicate their lives to practical Rabonus, thus the Kolel members not only study the Halacha, but also the practical applications of Halacha.
“The purpose of the Kolel is to educate and prepare future leaders who know practical halacha,” says Rabbi Shloimy Greenwald, founder of the Kolel. “We are so excited to report that we have further expanded to include over 40 yungeleit, due to great demand.”
Each of the students of the Kolel is partially sponsored by generous donors who have committed to supporting this new institution of learning.
The Rosh Kolel is Rabbi Sholom Ber Shuchat, Dayan in Beis Din Agudas Harabonim and the Beis Din of Vaad Harabonim of Queens. The Sgan Rosh Kolel is Rabbi Shraga Homnick, renowned scholar and Magid Shiur in Crown Heights.
Also on the staff is Rabbi Simon Jacobson, renowned author and lecturer, who serves as Mashpia and helps the young men to develop their skills and talents. Rabbi Eli Labkowsky serves as Meishiv for Chassidus.
Ever since its opening, the Kolel has been a center for Torah learning in Crown Heights and has shared its in-depth shiurim given by renowned rabbonim and poskim to the wider community through online broadcasts.
The kolel members each receive a stipend, those who are in their second year at the Kolel receive $1750 a month, and those in their first year receive $1250 a month.
The kolel also provides snacks and coffee throughout the day, and takes the members on educational outings to enhance the learning as well.
