The Klein’s Kosher Ice cream company were ordered by the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) to recall hundreds of gallons of Klein’s Vanilla Dairy Ice Cream this month.
A customer discovered an intact piece of metal equipment in the Weis Quality Cookies and Cream Ice Cream (which is OU-D), possibly presenting a choking hazard.
The item is manufactured by Weis Markets, Inc., a Mid Atlantic food retailer, which also seems to manufacture a Cholov Yisroel line of ice cream for Klein’s.
The Klein’s Vanilla bulk ice cream is packaged in 3-gallon containers with a code stamp of 0302 and are not for retail sale.
This product was sold to one retail establishment in New York and has been removed from sale, the FDA said.
Of the recalled treats, the majority (10,869 containers) are of 48-ounce Weis’ Quality Cookies and Cream, and 502 are for commercial-sale only 3-gallon bulk containers of Klein’s Vanilla Dairy flavor.
Additional ice cream products packaged on 10/28/2020 included 665 containers of Klein’s Cookies and Cream Dairy Bulk.
Anyone who bought the product — which has a sell-by date of 10/29/2020 — can return it for a full refund.

In a statement, Klein’s Ice Cream said the recall does not affect any of their items in circulation.
“The product in question was safely stored in a third-party warehouse and was never distributed. It has already been destroyed as a precautionary measure.
“Rest assured that all Klein’s products currently available are perfectly safe for consumption.”
