The Chabad Yeshiva in Kiryat Gat did not resume learning this week as a result of Israel’s military operation against the Hamas terror bases in Gaza.
COLlive was told that the IDF’s rear-area headquarters did not permit bochurim to travel back to the southern part of Israel from their homes after Shabbos.
Five Israelis have been killed since the start of military operation, which is now in its 10th day. Israel said its forces had carried out ground, air and sea attacks across Gaza.
Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak says Palestinian militant group Hamas has suffered a “hard blow,” but insists the offensive in Gaza will continue. “We still haven’t reached our objectives,” Mr. Barak told Israeli MPs.
In the meantime, Jerusalem-based bochurim will learn in the Tzemach Tzedek Kollel in the Old City. Kfar Chabad residents will learn in the Central Shul.
“We hope that by Wednesday, after the 10th of Teves fast, we will have permits to learn in ‘protected spaces’ in the Yeshiva,” a source at the Yeshiva said.
