Despite Coronavirus restrictions, over 300 men, women and children joined the annual Lag Baomer Parade and Rally in Kingston, PA.
When the topic came up of what to do for Lag Baomer this year, one of the suggestions was, to keep it safe and just do another “zoom rally,” organizers said.
“But very quickly, we realized we needed to do something on a much bigger scale, and make it memorable. All the while keeping to all the CDC and state regulations,” recalled Rabbi Yossi Baumgarten, Director of Cheder Menachem in Kingston.
“With just a few days left we went into planning mode,” Baumgarten says.
Organizers called the local JCC for permission to use their parking lot, then called the NJ based Dialed Action team to perform an amazing BMX bike show.
They also got permission from county officials and the local Police department to hold the event with social distancing, with final approval coming just 24 hours prior to the event.
On Lag BaOmer, over 70 cars paraded through Kingston, with over 300 people joining in unity for a drive-through rally and thrilling bicycle stunt show.
“Baruch Hashem, it was an amazing success,” Baumgarten says. “As one parent put it, ‘this was the first time in over 2 months that my children were able to get out of the house and see their friends, all while enjoying an amazing bike show.’
Special thanks to Rabbi Yossi Baumgarten, Rabbi Pinny Levitin, and Motty Hershkop for arranging and organizing the event.
