In preparation for Yud Alef Nissan, more than 50 students of Yeshivah College and Mesivta grades 7-11 participated in a 6-week Yeshivas Erev program.
Students attended twice-weekly evening classes on Pirush Hamilos – translation of Davening, by themselves or b’chavrusa.
A special Sefer was prepared (by the Yeshivah College Shluchim) with an interlinear layout, to ease the learning process. The students would first fill in a blank (interlinear) sheet, followed by an oral test of the English meaning of the words while using just the Hebrew text of the Siddur.
Over 50 students finished the minimum quota of Sh’ma and the Amida, and many went on to finish the blessings before and after Sh’ma, Psukei D’zimra, and, many other parts of Davening; a truly tremendous achievement.
Students who attended and learned were entered into a raffle for a partial flight to the Rebbe, amongst other prizes. Students with superb attendance and good learning were awarded a Hebrew-English Siddur to be able to continue learning the translation of Davening along with reviewing what they already know.
On Wednesday before Yud Alef Nissan there was an assembly in preparation for Yud Alef Nissan, where the students were presented with a certificate of achievement for their work and dedication.
There also was a special edition of ‘You be the Genius’ questionnaire for the Rebbe’s upcoming birthday. Many students finished on Yud Alef Nissan itself (which was on vacation), so the rewards were given out after Pesach in the beginning of the new term. The winner of the partial flight to the Rebbe was Yosef Aron, another prize winner was Eli Wajsbort.
