Shimon Rabinovitch was recently elected as chairman of the local council of the central Israeli village of Kfar Chabad, and the first item on his agenda was to fly to New York.
Rabinovitch’s first stop was to visit the Rebbe‘s Ohel in Cambria Heights, Queens, this past Friday and request blessings and guidance in his role.
At the Ohel, he presented a general ‘pan’ note signed by the 6 elected council members Shie Segal, Nachman Reichman, Schneur Michaelashvili, Shaul Beitsch, Bentzion Sheinberger and Yaakov Kenig.
He spent Shabbos at the Ohel with many chassidim and bochurim that came for Yud Shvat, the day the Rebbe accepted leadership of Chabad-Lubavitch and the yartzeit of the Frierdiker Rebbe who established Kfar Chabad.
Rabinovitch got a lesson in city management when he wasn’t able to leave Queens due to a travel ban issued by Mayor Bill de Blasio due to the severe winter weather.
On Sunday, Rabinovitch visited Lubavitch World Headquaters at 770 Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights and met with Merkos Chairman Rabbi Yehuda Krinsky and Vice Chairman Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky and the offices of Lahak publications.
In accordance with the Rebbe’s directive to previous people who held the role, Rabinovitch met with government collegues. He had a lunch meeting at Basil Pizza & Wine Bar with New York State Senator Jesse Hamilton and community activist Yaacov Behrman.
