After a 2 year hiatus, Congregation B’nai Jacob in Park Slope is once again offering their shul as a venue for live music events – hosting Yosef Karduner this Thursday, October 10 at 8:00 pm.
“We were disappointed to see the cafe come to an end 2 years ago,” says Darrin Cabot, the president of the shul. “We are thrilled to be able to host some talented performers here again. Our space is perfect for hosting musical events, and Yosef Karduner is an excellent way to kick these festivities off.”
One of the most successful events hosted by the shul was a concert with Yosef Karduner in 2010. Karduner is a world-renowned and inspiring Breslov chossid–he sings his heart to the psalms with his acoustic guitar and a single percussionist playing a cajon (a box shaped instrument that is played while using it like a seat; pronounced cahone)
The synagogue turned 100 this year. The community has worked tirelessly to restore it to its original splendor, but it is still in need of more renovation.
“We’ve made astounding progress, but there is so much more to do,” says Cabot. They’ve decided to re-open as Cafe B’nai and try to raise the funds to support this effort.
Cafe B’nai is located in Park Slope on Ninth Street between 7th and 8th Avenues. The concert is this Thursday night;, doors open at 8pm and the cover charge is $20/person (mention C.O.L. Live for a $2 discount.)
Take the 2 or 3 train to Bergen St, cross Flatbush and catch the 67 bus. Get off at 9th St, cross 9th St and walk down the hill. You can’t miss the shul.
Correct address is 401 9th Street, between 6th & 7th Avenues
