COMMUNICATED CONTENT
Michal* was just weeks away from her wedding when she tragically lost her both parents in a car crash. She recounts the chilling details:
“I lost my parents recently in a horrible car accident. I was already engaged. Since then all of my savings toward the wedding went toward things like paying bills … buying my siblings winter coats and shoes … I work 3 jobs just to get by.”
This month, 33 orphans like Michal are facing a difficult challenge: making a wedding without their parents. The couples have been hand-selected to participate in Kupat Ha’ir’s orphan wedding campaign for Chodesh Shevat.
Donations go primarily toward establishing their homes after marriage.
“My chassan is an orphan as well,” Michal continues, “we are praying that we will be able to make enough to get us started in a basic apartment. We’ll still be supporting my siblings with our jobs, but it would be so nice to have some simple second-hand furniture of our own.”
If this month’s campaign is successful, this hard-working kallah and others like her will have the opportunity start their married lives with some financial security.
For years, respected rabbanim such as Rav Kanievsky, Rav Shimon Galai and more have put their stamp of approval on the Kupat Ha’Ir orphan campaigns, often giving specific blessings to donors.
This month’s bracha is from Rav Mordechai Shmuel Edelstein shlit”a, who blesses those who contribute with “nachas from all their children, and to find fitting matches for them easily. The Rav will also pray for a list of selected donors at the gravesite of his father, Rav Yaakov Edelstein zt”l, on his upcoming yartzeit.
