Created in collaboration with Kehos, JLI’s Yom Kippur Mid-Service Machzor is an elegant and inspirational 120-page machzor that will significantly enhance Shluchim’s upcoming Yom Kippur services.
The challenge is well known: Jews who come home to shul on the holiest occasion of the year are often stymied by their unfamiliarity with the proceedings. And while this challenge remains in force for much of the service, it’s particularly acute during the Torah reading and the haftorah, when services are attended by a more disengaged demographic and when the services involve some “down time.”
Over the years, the production of various booklets has sought to mitigate this problem. However, these force congregants to toggle back and forth between the standard machzor and the alternative reading material, and the latter often distracts from what’s happening in shul. And when congregants choose to read the machzor, they are often left with some unanswered questions.
Enter the Yom Kippur Mid-Service Machzor, an idea proposed to JLI by Mrs. Malkie Herson, shluchah to Basking Ridge, New Jersey. Created in collaboration with Kehos, the Mid-Service Machzor is the only thing that a congregant requires in hand from the moment the aron kodesh is opened for krias haTorah through the conclusion of the Yizkor service. Authored by Rabbi Menashe Wolf, edited by Rabbi Mordechai Dinerman, designed by Rabbi Levi Weingarten and coordinated by Rabbi Motti Klein, this Mid-Service Machzor is sure to inspire and enhance Yom Kippur services worldwide.
Lavishly designed in color, the machzor contains the Hebrew liturgy, translation, and transliteration (when necessary) of this entire portion of the service, along with edifying commentary, insightful background, and empowering meditations. It also contains the comprehensive Yizkor service that’s widely used in Chabad Houses today, removing the need for Yizkor booklets.
Designed to be reused year after year, this machzor will be a breath of fresh air, not only for the once-a-year attendee, but also for the more seasoned participant who stays for much of the Yom Kippur service.
