On Sunday night, June 19th, Alumni and friends gathered to celebrate the 49th year of Yeshivas Kol Yaakov Yehuda Hadar Hatorah at a beautiful dinner at the Jewish Children’s Museum.
Hadar Hatorah was founded in 1962 by Rabbi Yisroel Jacobson, obm, as the world’s first yeshiva dedicated to baalei teshuva. He was a man of tremendous vision and foresight.
The idea of such a yeshiva was the first of its kind ever, absolutely unheard of in the Jewish world at the time. He was joined by the Rabbi JJ Hecht OBM who took over the finances of the yeshiva. Rabbi Hecht always made it clear – “Find me neshomas, and I’ll find the money.”
His son, Rabbi Shea Hecht, chairman of the National Committee for the Furtherance of Jewish Education (NCFJE), spoke of the yeshiva’s importance and how it was a trailblazer to many baalei teshiva institutions around the world.
The Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Yaakov Goldberg spoke as well, calling on alumni to continue growing spiritually as they have during the yeshiva years.
The Guest of Honor was Dr. Zev Zelenko, an alumnus of the yeshiva, who runs a very well respected, thriving medical practice in Monroe, NY.
Couple of the Year went to Michoel and Etta Chaya Brummel, who are well known for their amazing hospitality towards Hadar Hatorah students.
Yosef Kanofsky, also an alumnus, and founder of YAM (Youth Action Movement) received the Community Service Award for his dedicated work with Crown Heights young people.
Alumni Yaakov Stern and Shimon Kroll were respectively, Dinner Chairman and Journal Chairman.
The dinner was well-attended and thoroughly enjoyed by all.

agree with #’s 2, 3, 4.
Rabbi Goldberg has been faithfully guiding these precious neshamas for so many years, quietly but steadily. Amazing. They are growing and thriving because of his guidance.
Hadar Hatorah is the tachlis of The Rebbe’s vision for the world.
Rabbi Goldberg sees his students (past and present – many of whom are rabbis and leaders in their own right in communities around the world, and have students of their own) as his own children… and grandchildren… To him the yeshiva is not about big numbers, publicity, or hotshot alumni; it’s about individuals…
runs the ruchniyus and the gashmiyus. unreal person. if only people in crown heights would know who they have in their midst….
a genuine talmid chochom, caring, down to earth, dedicated chosid.
it would not be an overstatment to say he is one of the foremost leading spiritual guides today in chabad!
and all without media publicity!
An award well deserved!
