This year, Purim coincided with the much celebrated International Women’s Day, known in Russia as Vasmovo Marta. It’s a day when families and couples gather and pay respect to the women in their lives.
Despite the significance of this secular holiday, Jews from all walks of life chose to celebrate Purim instead. Over 500 people participated in various Purim programs.
“This is a sign of real progress in our community,” said Shliach Rabbi Chaim Danzinger. “If a few years ago people chose to celebrate New Years instead of coming to Shul for Shabbos, now that’s no longer the case. People are proving that Judaism comes first.”
The Or Avner Jewish Day School performed a spectacular purim musical relating the story of Purim through song and dance.
Kids participated in a costume contest and enjoyed many activities and games.
Separate purim parties and megilla readings were held for students, seniors and the Jewish Preschool.
At the Purim Seuda for students, which went on till late at night, Yura, an active community member, decided that in the coming weeks he will undergo a bris milah.
