A Jewish woman was assaulted by a black female who attempted to rob her as she walked in Crown Heights on Thursday evening.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:05 pm on Empire Boulevard and Albany Avenue, when the attacker approached a Jewish woman and punched her in the back of the head, knocking her to the ground. She continued to punch the victim while attempting to grab her purse, all the while shouting that she wanted her money, witnesses said.
Police and Shmira volunteers were called, and when they arrived on the scene the attacker fled down Empire Boulevard.
Shmira volunteers caught the woman on Empire Boulevard near Troy Avenue, and witnesses identified her as the attacker. She was arrested by police and charged with robbery.
The victim, who had sustained injuries to her face, was treated by Hatzalah.
The attacker is a 16-year-old female who is homeless, police said. She admitted to police that she had attempted to rob the woman.
The NYPD is investigating the incident.
