Jewish Man Hit Before Shabbos

A perpetrator was arrested Friday afternoon after hitting a Jewish victim with a stick before Shabbos.

The incident occurred at Schenectady Avenue and Carroll Street in Crown Heights at approximately 7:10 PM, when a black male said anti-Semitic slurs to a Jewish young man walking near him, saying “you — Jews, Hitler should have finished you off.”

A verbal altercation ensued, and the perp displayed a canister of mace and discharged it in the victim’s face.

A witness then intervened, in an attempt to stop the altercation, when the perpetrator picked up a stick and struck him in the head with it.

Volunteers of the Shmira patrol and the NYPD responded to a call about the incident. The perpetrator was apprehended at Troy Ave and President Street and was placed under arrest by the NYPD.

Brooklyn South Chief and the 71 Commanding Officer has assigned extra coverage in the area specifically to reassure the community of their safety, police said.
