A joyous celebration took place in the streets of Freiburg im Breisgau in Germany, as a new Torah was welcomed by the Chabad Center led by Rabbi Yakov and Chava Gitler.
The Torah has an emotional story, having been dedicated to all terror victims in Israel.
The Torah was taken to various locations of terrorist attacks in Israel, and family members who have lost loved ones were given the opportunity to write a letter.
The Torah was finally brought to Freiburg im Breisgau, where the final letters were written at the Chabad Center.
The main shopping thouroughfare in the city, a street that carried the name ‘Adolf Hitler’ Yemach Shemo during the war, was closed off to accommodate the large crowd, and the Torah was led with joyous dancing, singing of niggunim and celebrating by hundreds of Jews.
Rabbi Yakov Gitler shared that the momentous event signified the triumph of the Jewish nation and the Torah despite all odds.
“Today we proved that no matter what happens to the Jewish nation, we blossom and we are alive,” Rabbi Gitler said.
