In honor of Chanukah 5779, the shluchim and students from JETS of Los Angeles produced a traveling Chanukah theater which visited schools and Chabad Houses.
The powerful message of Chanukah was brought and taught to hundreds of Jews of all ages and backgrounds around Southern California. Enthralled attendees watched as the mighty Maccabees miraculously triumphed over the corrupt Yavanim. The play concluded with Yehuda HaMaccabi lighting the menorah as the spark of Jewish pride and strength was ignited within every attendee.
Koby Lerner, a notable thespian in LA Jewish productions, starred as Rabbi Yehuda hamaccabi who was accompanied by his humorous student Getzel the Pretzelman, AKA Noach Wilansky. The duo mesmerized the crowds, depicting the might every Jew possesses.
The ferocious and intense aggressiveness of King Antiochus Epiphanies was well portrayed by up-and-coming actor Aharon J. Larry Cowen. His hilarious guards, Yosef David and Shmuly Baroccas, added the perfect amount of comedy which kept the audiences laughing and engaged.
Raffi Muller and Avi Mendelowitz ensured the actors could be heard and seen while on stage with the use of professional lighting, and a high-quality sound system including individual lapel microphones for all the actors. The props, costumes, and backdrops transported playgoers to ancient Mo’adin. Choni Chein and Sholom Berkowitz made this atmosphere achievable. The play’s well-written script was penned by Yossi Briski.
The production was a massive undertaking for the JETS SHLUCHIM who empowered and enabled JETS students to light up the world in a creative way, unveiling the astounding talent each actor possesses. Mendel Fayershtein, a JETS shliach and the play’s director, dedicated many hours of planning, fundraising, and instruction to ensure the production would be nothing short of excellent.
A very big Shout out to Dovi Neparstek, one of the jets shluchim, for everything!
