On a cold and rainy Sunday evening following Hei Teves, and in the spirit of the Chassidic holiday of seforim, men and women filled the Chabad of Baka hall in the heart of Jerusalem. They were eager to hear from renowned author and speaker, Rabbi Mendel Kalmenson, who is a devoted shliach in Belgravia, London, together with his wife Chana and their children.
Participants were treated to a delectable barbecue dinner and music by the talented singer and guitarist, Zelig. Rabbi Kalmenson held the rapt attention of the audience, as he wove together a beautiful talk about finding one’s purpose in life, based on the teachings and wisdom of the Rebbe.
With a combination of deep wisdom and entertaining humor, he warmly engaged the crowd.
A powerful point was that in addition to your talents and skills, your vices and challenges are monumental in identifying your soul’s mission. Instead of deleting a painful chapter or relationship from your life, the author suggested seeing it as a hyperlink in the clues of your individual purpose in this world. Poignant stories and pertinent jokes brought these points home.

Many people bought the book and were delighted to have it personally signed by the author. One participant shared, “This was so meaningful and needed. I wish we could do a week-long retreat with Rabbi Kalmenson on this topic.”
The meaningful dinner and gathering was dedicated liluy nishmas HaRav Yosef Yitzchak ben HaRav Yekusiel Dov Ber (Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Kalmenson z’l), the beloved father of the author, who suddenly passed away this past Rosh Hashana.
