Two special lines were inscribed in the historic “Washington Torah” project, the first Torah scroll undertaken to be written entirely in the nation’s capital.
The lines were written by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sarah, during their visit to Washington, DC to meet with President Donald Trump.
The prominent Sofer Stam, R’ Shaul Bessel, inscribed the letters just before the Prime Minister met with student leaders and young professionals from around the country.
The words written for Benjamin Netanyahu were his namesake, “UleVinyamin Amar,” and the words for Sarah Netanyahu were for her namesake, “Vayiheyu Chayei Sarah,” from Parshas Chayei Sarah.
During the writing, Sarah Netanyahu pointed out that she was born in the Parsha of Chayei Sarah, making the writing even more meaningful to her.
The Prime Minister then spoke with the student leaders, many of whom are influencers with millions of followers on social media.
The Prime Minister thanked Chabad for the work they do around the world.
This follows significant inscriptions such as “Tzedek Tzedek Tirdof” (Justice, justice shalt Thou pursue) which was written in at the United States Supreme Court several months ago in the presence of Justices of the US Supreme Court, as well as inscriptions at the National Menorah at the White House Ellipse (Be’haalosecha – when you illuminate), the National Zoo (Teyvas Noach – Noah’s Ark), and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (Ki Tivneh Bayot Chadash – when you build a new home) and others.
