In an extraordinary early Wednesday morning vote, Israel’s cabinet endorsed an agreement aimed at securing the release of approximately 50 hostages who were kidnapped and taken to Gaza during the terror attack on October 7.
Although not all the agreement’s details have been officially disclosed to the public, an Israeli government official, during a briefing with reporters the previous Tuesday, indicated that the deal is expected to result in the release of 50 Israeli citizens, predominantly women and children, in daily groups of 12-13 individuals.
In exchange, Israel has committed to a ceasefire, lasting at least four days, marking the first ceasefire since the outbreak of the war.
Additionally, Israel has agreed to release Palestinian women and minors from incarceration, enabling them to return to their homes, primarily in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. While a specific number has not been provided, Hebrew media reports suggest the figure to be approximately 150.
Statement by the Government of Israel
The Government of Israel is obligated to return home all of the hostages. Tonight, the Government has approved the outline of the first stage of achieving this goal, according to which at least 50 hostages – women and children – will be released over four days, during which a pause in the fighting will be held. The release of every additional ten hostages will result in one additional day in the pause.
The Government of Israel, the IDF and the security services will continue the war in order to return home all of the hostages, complete the elimination of Hamas and ensure that there will be no new threat to the State of Israel from Gaza.
This means we are giving Hamas time to recoup!! Oy, how stupid!!
Are we permitted to not take 50 captives/lives they are giving you because of a general safety issue of not fighting for 5 days? I am no Rabbi but it doesn’t feel clear cut.

Some entities in power love endless wars.
Some pharmaceutical companies love endless sickness
Some politicians love endless violence and homelessness
Who profits?
Not the people
If they wanted to win they would aim for complete victory.
I guess they need a truce because they were having too much success defeating the enemy.
The Rebbe cried and screamed for years about the senseless and avoidable loss of life.
Sigh
But too no avail.
What in EARTH???? Have they not figured out by now that EVERY SINGLE TIME they’ve DONE THIS IT BACKFIRES????? CVS!!!
Maybe what civilized people consider a backfire is to the elites a success. They use the crisis their policies created to maintain a sense of unease and fear in the population, enough for them to retain extra -judicial power and control.
They will never give up
They get three terrorists in exchange for one innocent person. Absolutely sick. Israel continues to incentivize them doing this. When will they listen to the Rebbe?!!??!!?
I agree these Palestinians that they releasing were arrested for a reason and exchanging one good person for three bad….
OUR TOP PRIORITY IS THE HOSTAGES EVEN IF THAT MEANS CEASEFIRE
Only after all 240 hostages are back will Israel truly be able to destroy Hamas but with the threat of killing/harming the hostages Israel can’t really go full speed ahead on destroying Hamas
I agree with this ceasefire fully(also it’s not permanent- it’s 5 days!)
I’m not an expert on politics at all but this is my opinion
THE HOSTAGES ARE OUR TOP PRIORITY IF THIS CEASEFIRE BRINGS THE HOSTAGES HOME-IM ALL FOR IT
Israel can’t completely go full speed ahead on destroying Hamas with the threat of killing/ harming the hostages!! Right now the hostages are our main problem and if laying down our guns for 5 days can bring them home then let’s do it!!!!!!
Im no expert on politics but this is my opinion
Just to make this clear: it’s NOT PERMANENT it’s for 5 days!
The hostages are not our top priority. The safety and security of millions of other Jews (kein yirbu) is. And releasing Hamas prisoners compromises that, as (r”l) it has many times before.
We ALL are devastated by the hostage snatching – and yes! Their safety IS top priority- what I think ‘You’ve got it all Wrong’ is trying to say is, that by agreeing to a cease-fire there is a danger of more lives being endangered G-d forbid!
That is precisely what I’m saying. We don’t need a “gentle voice please,” but a forceful one, saying this.
https://www.ynetnews.com/magazine/article/bkypnmrnp
And no “gentle voice” is needed, but a forceful one. Yes, this deal is endangering Jewish lives, r”l.
U cant favor one life over others.
This is saving the lives of 50 yidden!
the lives of hundreds or thousands of others, r”l.
What are you talking about Israel’s top priority is getting the hostages back!
The highest priority is preventing Hamas from ever being able to (r”l) take Jewish lives again. If that can be done while saving the hostages, great, but if not, why then those same hostages themselves will be endangered in the future by such a deal.
Sinwar current Hamas leader and mastermind of Oct 7 was handed back in exchange for Gilad Shalit along with 1,026 other terrorists. This is the direct outcome of negotiating for hostage release. It’s incomprehensible
If the hostages knew about this ceasefire they would be mad!!! I swear that they know exactly how many lives are in danger!!! My family lives next to the Gaza border!!! They can get kidnapped, murdered and raped all because of a ceasefire. Did you know that there was one on October 6th?! And look what happened!!!
A lot can happen in five days
HOW IN THE WORLD DO THEY NOT LEARN THEIR LESSON???? Israel is losing their minds
Traitors don’t learn lessons until they lose control of power. What do you expect? These are the same people who left the Gaza border completely unguarded before the attack and didn’t respond for seven hours after?! These are the same people that disarmed the Israeli civilians in the communities along the border too. They do not value the sanctity of every life except their own. Not much different than the people in charge in the USA who deliberately leaves the southern border wide open and even protects the illegal alien criminals with sanctuary cities while defunding the police and hiring… Read more »
We need all of them home – without giving them back any terrorists! Or any ceasefire! Please hashem bring Moshiach!!!
This is going to allow Hamas the chance to grow back another head, but unfortunately I can’t tell anyone in that part of the world what to do. I don’t live in Israel; nor do I have family there. I am not serving in the IDF (let alone getting killed, CVS). And I am not related to any of the hostages, although I understand the suffering of the families involved. Nevertheless, I find this decision demoralizing. As Napoleon said, “He who fights a defensive war is lost.” This war has given us Jews a mission to stamp out evil. And… Read more »
Giving the enemy exactly what they hoped for when they started all of this
Sad
Not
imagine the hostages reading all these comments
Imagine being a hostage knowing that you were captured by terrorists let out by a previous exchange how mad would you be don’t try to play smart here with emotions of you so a proper calculation and you are trying for this not to happen again this is not what they need to do and the hostages themselves know that just wait till they tell you themselves
The arabs being released are not convicted of murder (according to the deal). Read.
They are giving back to Gaza Palestinian women and children NOT TERRORISTS!
Of course these women and children are no where near righteous but more likely evil minded people. Maybe even the mothers of terrorists. But we MUST get back OUR people. If and if only they comply with the cease fire, then leave it up to the IDF to continue eliminating Hamas! We will wipe THEM off the face of the earth, with complete Hell on their way down and over there in Hell MORE punishment. However, let us remember and hold TIGHT. Moshiach Moshiach
Am Yisroel Chai!
Read the lists, vast vast majority are ‘boys’ age 18, and a few women. Some convicted of stabbing bombing etc. just because no one died doesn’t mean that they didn’t want to kill.
They are being released back to Yehuda and shomron and east Jerusalem,
Of those women and children being released 74 are terrorists who badly injured people in jerusalem while trying to murder them. Those terrorists will be released back to their homes next to their neighbors they tried to kill. One victim is now partly paralysed!
What Guarantee do we have that at the end of the day ALL the hostages will b returned?
For each and every “humanitarian truck” that was allowed into Gaza, it should have been CONDITIONAL that one hostage must be released, on even greater humanitarian grounds obviously.
Then there would be no need to release terrorists from prisons, where they belong!
Hundreds of trucks were allowed in, and no condition was set that even one hostage must be released.
Unbelievable!!
They need and have pleaded for the cease-fire more desperately than we do, so that in itself is a significant indicator this is less a benefit for Israel than for Hamas.
This ceasefire hostage deal is a disaster.
No provision for IDF, or male, or foreign hostages.
Makes it higher stakes to get the remaining hostages.
Hamas now can regroup and is encouraged to kidnap more hostages.
All hostages should be released at the same time.
Another shalit deal disaster
Send the 150 released prisoners back to Hamas In gaza or any other Arab country – we’ll gladly send over as many as they want
That is not so simple First of all they will regroup and possibly more soldiers will be at danger of …. and it makes it much harder to try to find and locate alive the other hostages
under the terms of the deal, Idf remains on the ground however no aircrafts, drones etc. are allowed. what’s preventing them from attempting to abduct soldiers? during the down time? (Israel has proven itself foolish enough to actually keep the deal & will probably cut off any areal over watch for the troops)
Is to STORM THE HEAVENS that this “deal” doesn’t go through, and BEG HASHEM to save the hostages in a miraculous way that doesn’t Chas V’sholom endanger anyone!!
On one hand it’s absolutely messed up how they are doing 3 TERRORISTS for 1 INNOCENT CIVILIAN ON THE other hand imagine it was YOU !!!!!
You being held in Gaza
You being tortured by the terorists
You with a gun to your neck for 6 +weeks
What would you want to happen???!!!!!!
I think you made the point very clear
“The details of the agreement are much closer to Hamas’, not Israel’s, conditions of an extended truce and significant humanitarian aid.”
Based on the Rabbonim all Charedi parties voted for deal.
Why is it most Chabad anash have so against the deal.
I wonder what the opinions would be if a sizable amount of the hostages were Anash.
